Personality: Despite what a first impression might tell you, Alex is rather personable and fun. Imaginative and quite intelligent, Alex has an introverted nature that tends to come across as stand offish or at least distant. She tries to be cordial and polite but until she really gets to know someone and warms to them (and vice versa) she's slow to start. Her friends, however, know her as a snarky, sarcastic, lively person.

Smart as a whip she can hold her own with just about anyone. Though it takes her some time to make friends with someone, once she does it's pretty much for good. Alex always shows devotion to her friends and is the most reliable of her social group if you ever need a favour, help or just someone in your corner. Alex doesn't have much left in the way of family but, just like her friendships, it still rates high up among her values.

On top of it all, Alex has a stubborn streak a mile wide. With more will power than most people and an equal amount of determination, Alex completes any task she sets for herself. If she gets an idea in her head or promises to do something, one way or another it will get done. Headstrong, she's much more likely to leap into a situation without considering all the outcomes or angles first. Her curiosity is a driving factor for her, she doesn't like to think of herself as nosy but she does have to remind herself now and then what is her business and what isn't. Full of questions and queries, Alex just can't let things drop sometimes and it's gotten her in well over her head before.

Despite her obstinacy, Alex's worst trait has to be her temper. Happy to pace herself most of the time, Alex's threshold for stress is rather high. Once the scale is tipped, however, she doesn't really have the coping mechanisms and instead just blows her top. Anger is her response to overwhelming and stressful situations. Usually she's able to use it as a driving force for herself, focusing it on the task at hand. When there is no pressing task she just fumes for a few hours until she starts to unwind. When Alex is wound up it's best to just keep her busy or keep well out of her way.

Like anyone else Alex has her share of quirks, she's a perfectionist and a pack rat. Mementos and trinkets anything that she thinks has relevance she will hold onto, keeping it carefully organised and categorised. Keeping her hands on everything, easily accessible gives Alex a sense of control and order that she craves. But it comes in cycles too, eventually she has collected so much that it's overwhelming and she will go on a cathartic purging. Every few months Alex clears everything out, keeping what still is important and pitching the rest. She's a creature of habit and very much so follows her daily routine. Most of her friends think of her as 'in a rut' but Alex doesn't mind. She goes to the gym regularly, not so much out of a strong desire for fitness but more because it's what she always does. Routines are comfortable to her.

Ever since she was little Alex has been one of the most disciplined people around. It could be her inner control freak or just plain stubbornness, but Alex has never had a problem pacing herself or overindulging. Work has always been easy to finish and distractions just as easy to ignore. Ever since she opened the Tome she's had power, both magical and physical. Though it would be easy to abuse her powers she does not use them frivolously. Even though she has magic and is able to use it to cast spells on herself and others she doesn't think too much of it. She doesn't think of herself as a witch or magical being neither does she think too much of her heightened physical abilities. She wasn't hand picked by fate and this isn't destiny, it's just the job in front of her, nothing defining. Still, she understands that she does have a responsibility and takes that seriously. She was given the power to defeat the Ancients and even if she succeeded there's always the chance of a devotee trying something.

Physical Description: Despite her nerdy nature, Alex does not look like someone whose big thrills consist of quadratic theorem.Tall and toned, Alex is agile and athletic. Even before she was imbued with extra strength she kept fit, but now her body is more naturally inclined to staying in shape. A regular work out routine ensures she's always in the best shape she can be and prepared for anything. Blond hair and fair skin, Alex usually doesn't stand out in a crowd. She has a natural anonymity that she enjoys. The only unique physical characteristic she has to really set her apart is a deep scar across the whole of her back, the reminder of the demons out there. It can't usually be seen as the only times Alex wears a tank top that would reveal it are while fighting or working out.

Her wardrobe is also usual and pedestrian. Her favourite colours are earth tones and neutrals, she owns a lot of grey. Usually she just wears jeans and a t-shirt, tossing her jacket or U Dub hoodie on if it's cold enough. Her appearance is as much of a rut as the rest of her life, never varying much. She dresses mostly for comfort and practicality. In keeping with her low key façade, Alex doesn't do too much else with her appearance. Make up is mostly just eye-liner and gloss, her hair is pulled back or left down and jewellery is minimal and simple. Alex doesn't do it on purpose to help her fade back but she doesn't mind it.
Skills: Apart from her above average strength and agility, Alex was granted a number of other skills from her experience with the Tome. All knowledge that was stored in there was given to her, spells, magic, strength, abilities and knowledge was passed into her. Alex is able to handle a number of melee and ranged weapons. She is a crack shot with all types of hand guns, rifles and shotguns, personally she prefers her own SIG Sauer to the larger guns. She keeps the hand gun, as well as a few clips, stowed on her whenever she goes out after demons.

She has never explored the depths of her magical abilities, though she has a good handle on them. If she really pushed herself in study she could expand her power but it does not interest her. Her magic, which she mostly uses only in the field, is both offensive and defensive. Her arsenal consists of spells to repair objects, healing (both herself and others), revealing or making things invisible, offensive and defensive shielding, dispelling the magic in an area or on an object, summoning illusions or low level 'demons', magical attacks and mesmerising foes into her control.

Family Background: Despite the turn her life would take later on down the road, Alex's upbringing was peaceful and normal. She was the only child of Patty and Nick Roivas, both teachers at the local high school. Though her family was small they were very close-knit. Alex and Patty, unlike some mothers and daughters, got along wonderfully, enjoying their own special traditions and rituals. And, of course, her relationship with Nick was just as healthy. Alex had the Roivas intellectual streak, just like her father. The two of them bonded over puzzles and games that her mother, while she pretended to be interested, never really got. As a child Alex was polite and well-behaved, the only time she ever really got into trouble was for her inquisitive and sometimes nosy nature. Her childhood should have been an easy, stable and loving one.

When she was six her life unexpectedly changed, throwing her into upheaval. Driving home from a friend's party, Nick and Patty got into an accident, both dying on the scene. Though Alex was lucky to have been safely home and in bed there was still the sad fact that in just the span of one evening she had become an orphan. Another bit of luck for her was that she lived only an hour away from her grandfather who willingly took her in. Edward proved to be a wonderful guardian, he adored his granddaughter and was able to take comfort in the similarities between her and her father. And, similarly, for Alex it was the next best thing to still having her father around her. Edward bonded with Alex the same way Nick had, nurturing her interest in the academic and intellectual fields. As she got older her thirst for knowledge grew and Edward, with his own academic background and collection of artefacts, happily fed into it. Alex had lost a maternal influence and the parents she loved dearly but she still had her grandfather whom she adored.

Unlike Edward, who eventually learned to deal and cope, Alex never really got over her parent's death. She found happiness and a niche with Edward but she was never able to move on completely from what she lost. As she got older her defences grew, forming a wall around her that only Edward was able to penetrate. During her teenage years Alex mostly kept herself busy with school. She had a few close friends, and even a girlfriend for a short stint in her senior year, but she never let anyone in completely. For the most part her life with Edward was quiet and low-key, most of her time was spent on school work. It paid off, after graduation she went to University of Washington on a scholarship.

U Dub became one of Alex's most favourite places, if it hadn't been for her firm belief in visiting home during the holidays she would have never left campus. She went in for a double degree in abstract mathematics and number theory, instantly becoming a fixture around the maths department. She immersed herself in the collegiate experience just as she had done with her high school career. The only difference was that in the maths department she met more people like herself and found a more active social life. After she collected her bachelors she immediately followed up by pursuing her masters, she had no desire to leave the academic world just yet.

In the spring of her first year of graduate studies, Alex received the horrible call from Rhode Island informing her that her grandfather had been murdered. Dropping everything Alex went home to Warwick to identify the body and discover the details of his grisly death. The police were baffled, despite their best efforts all they could come up with were dead ends, even after weeks of investigating. Still in Rhode Island to handle his affairs Alex couldn't accept letting things go unanswered and resolved to find things out on her own. While exploring the nooks and crannies of the mansion, going through everything, she found a book bound in human skin and bone, the Tome of Eternal Darkness. Inside were the accounts of the many individuals throughout history that had been involved in unlocking and fighting against the Ancients, otherworldly 'gods'.

When she read the tome the power of the book and stories within imparted their own power into her, unleashing the knowledge, arcane magick and strengths of the poor mortals that had gone against the evil powers. Discovering that her own ancestors, Edward included, had played pivotal roles in the battle against the Ancients, Alex resolved to be the last link and stop the evil forces once and for all. The more she read and the deeper she got the more she lost her grip on reality and sanity. Coming close to losing her mind and her life, Alex relived ancient events and fought through timestreams to destroy all but the most powerful of gods.

Surviving the ordeal, Alex took her time in getting her grandfather's things together. She only had school to get back to and she was not in a place to deal with anything let alone rigorous school work. Staying in Rhode Island for the rest of the semester, Alex collected herself and reflected on what she'd been through, finding a way to process and accept it all and what it meant for her future. Eventually Alex sold the mansion and returned to Washington state.

Since her experience in 2000, Alex has had to live with the knowledge of what is out there and suffer it alone. For the most part she has succeeded in living the normal life she enjoys. In 2001 she graduated with her masters degree and eventually took a position in Portland, Oregon. She was friendly with her co-workers and had a comfortable little apartment all to her own. Life was quiet and enjoyable, apart from the occasional run in with resiliently loyal minions of the ancients that just insist on reminding her of her responsibility. For the most part however that part of her life is secondary. It wasn't until recently when she started to get wind of strange rumours and vibes that she felt the need to take a closer look, afraid that perhaps things weren't as settled as she believed. Taking a sabbatical from work, she packed what was needed and headed south for California.

Dating Style: Alex doesn't get involved easily, she tends to keep up her guard to an extent and resists the urge to jump right into things. When she is in a relationship, Alex's independent streak seems like a world away. Her hesitance to get involved stems from the ease she has with being identified as a 'couple'.
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Social Life: Not the most active of social lives but it still has a pulse. Alex enjoys working and immersing herself in problems and numbers. The majority of her friends are her co-workers and while some do share her desire to be in their own heads there are plenty that want to cut loose. When she does go out with friends and some of her closer co-workers, Alex usually goes to bars or, occasionally, dancing. Karaoke is her favourite thing to do even though she's never gotten up to sing.
Marital Status: Siiiiiingle

Affiliation: In the grand scheme of things Alex is aligned with the side of Good and Light. As far as smaller scale alliances go, she's pretty much a lone wolf.
Political Belief: More of a liberal conservative, Alex thinks of herself as an independent. Her fiscal/economic views are conservative while her social views align with the right. Seeing things from both sides, Alex isn't very invested in the political spectrum. She'd rather keep her views and thoughts to herself.
Personal Philosophy/Motto: Let q * = ±q where the sign is plus if q ≡ 1 (mod 4) and minus if q ≡ −1 (mod 4). (I.e. |q *| = q and q * ≡ 1 (mod 4).) Then x2 ≡ p (mod q) is solvable if and only if x2 ≡ q * (mod p) is solvable.
Dreams/Goals: All Alex really wants to do is math and theory. Apart from not having to worry about money and just being able to work she has no real dreams.
